The main theme of the poem seems to be that of escape. Escape from reality may be what the author is trying to demonstrate. Books do have a way of transporting the human mind to other places and realities. As such, it makes sense that a book, poem, or other form of literature would be an escape from a person’s present reality.

The escape theory portrays people as wanting or needing to escape the uncomfortable reality that they find themselves in. A good example is the child that grew up poor and when reaches college age, immerses themselves in study to achieve a goal of an education and a better opportunity to earn a decent living.

In life, many people try to escape from various things. No matter what they are trying to avoid, these things ultimately ladder down to their fears, their deepest sorrows, their pains, their past, and their disappointments. In relationships, you see escapism come into play when people rebound after painful breakups.

For it to be healthy, you must be accessing these fantasy worlds with a positive intention and from a place of emotional security, rather than as an attempt to escape reality. The intention is key. If you are merely trying to make negative feelings go away, and you do it reflexively, you are practicing escapism.
